A SURPRISING START
Camille Lewis is a talented woman who is making a difference in the construction industry. She is Semper Tek’s Marketing Manager & RFP Specialist. She started at Semper Tek in 2018 and has been in the construction industry for 4 1/2 years. She started in construction through a friend who recommended a job opportunity they though she would be well suited for. She is proud she found a position that is best suited for her and her interests. “I love getting to work with so many different people within Semper Tek. My job allows me to correspond with those in the office and in the field” she says.
AN INDUSTRY THAT FITS EVERYONE
Camille has not let being a woman have any effect on her career. “Since joining the workforce, I have worn a lot of different hats, but I am happiest where I have found myself today” she said. She shared with us that her favorite part is being a part of the design and production that furthers the success of Semper Tek. Being in construction is rewarding through the work we build and especially because of who it can impact. “In federal construction specifically, I am proud to be serving our military and veteran clients” shared Camille.
GET INVOLVED
Getting women in construction starts when they are in school. To attract women to the industry, Camille advises construction organizations to get involved in STEM and career programs in the schools to teach students about the various opportunities available for them. At Semper Tek, we support and participate in organizations that are working in STEM programs. “I have had several opportunities to do this via our SAME Moody Valdosta Post, as SAME is big on educating students about STEM careers” said Camille. Young adolescents and women need to be aware of the opportunities that await them in this industry; there is so much to be a part of.
